Does any one of us truly seek suffering? Suffering comes our way in living our life with all the bad moments. Some suffering continues for years, especially with the loss of a loved one to addiction or disease.
It could be that saints are given a gift of more tolerance for suffering. When trials come which cause suffering, this may be God's chosen method to prepare us to become more like the saints and martyrs.
In a Christian worldview, suffering gives us a clearer vision of the realities of life in a world where our son and the sins of others form our environment. Suffering as a human ultimately draws us to find meaning in the sufferings of Jesus. When we understand why we suffer, and why he suffered on our behalf, we are united to him in a different, deeper way. Our view of life and how we live it changes. We begin to interpret this present moment in light of our future. With faith, we begin to live in the presence of the future, which transforms this moment into a more full, glorious life. Suffering helps us know God’s mind and view of our lives, the knowledge to live life through new eyes (vision), and with a wisdom that leads us to thrive and experience the fullest, best life.
